Dothill Local Nature Reserve

Dothill Local Nature Reserve

Well after a hell of a day I practically ran into the woods!
What a place to see though. I have never been here before and was drawn to it by a photo a reader posted on here a few weeks ago. I have been trying to get there since and even today I only managed a tiny portion of it.

This walk is ideal for wheelchairs, buggies, dogs, kids. Come on down everyone!

It was evening and quiet so I parked down by the school, on the opposite side of the road to the yellow lines.

I walked all around the outskirts of the school which encompassed a play park, a football field, a cycle track, some woods and a lovely pond with super tame swans.

The sky tonight was astounding. Pink candy floss and white puffy swirls with orange edges. It bounced off the pond making blood orange ripples as it went. My little phone just couldn't do it justice so I suggest you head on over to Dothill Nature Reserve facebook page to see what a real photographer can do with a camera.

I will be heading back here soon as I want to explore the bigger pond and walks on the opposite side of the road. Apparently there is a rail track that goes on for miles.

Excuse all the swan photos, he kept following me around the lake posing!!

Junk to Jewel Clothes Swap Events @ The Wakes

Junk to Jewel Clothes Swap Events @ The Wakes

Forge Urban Revival Junk to Jewel events (next one 28th October) include a Clothes Swap. Saving you money on a change of wardrobe and protecting the environment at the same time.

How the clothes swap works

1. Bring along up to 20 of your good quality, clean, unwanted clothes . . . please, no underwear!! (make sure they are unwanted because we cannot guarantee you can have them back).

2. We will take them off you and sort them in to pre-loved piles.

3. Go through the pre-loved piles and choose new items to take home with you (well, new to you) swapping on a 1 to 1 basis (so if you brought 10 items, you can take 10 items).

Although they are relaxed about what items you bring and take, they ask you to think fairly. They are flexible with what you can take (you may have brought skirts and want trousers) they do ask you to think about what you are taking and be fair to everyone remember . . . you get what you give.

The Junk to Jewel events are the last Saturday of the month (starting the 28th October) they are run by Forge Urban Revival @ The Wakes Oakengates. ... See MoreSee Less

Great Dawley Town Council Garden and DIY tool hire Scheme

It makes little sense for households to have tools laying around unused for most of the time. What people need is access to tools when they need them instead of owning one per household.

Great Dawley Town Council are now operating a tool hire club!

Anyone remember walking along Reynolds Wharf in Coalport (the old canal towpath between the museum and towards the Coalport Bridge (the one with Woodbridge Inn) before there was a locked gate stopping you?Have you ever lived in or visited Coalport? A path here has been recently closed off by a locked gate at Reynolds Wharf. Can you remember if you ever walked along Reynolds Wharf?

There is a new housing development here and the way in question is shown on the map. Some local people and many others say they have walked here for years, both before and after the new houses were built (its actually the line of the old canal towpath) and it is also the subject of a (pending) Definitive Map Modification Order application to create a Right of Way.

Local people and the ward Councillor are appealing for evidence from people familiar with this route or have used it on guided Ramblers or other walking groups walks or personal walks at any time in the past. It’s a path from the Coalport Museum car park towards the Coalport Bridge. You could have used it for any purpose, visiting friends, walking your dog, to get from A to B or jogging or walking for exercise. To create a public right of way it is necessary to prove a path has been open and used continuously for at least 20 years, so even childhood memories from the long distant past fifty years ago could be important. They need people who can say in writing that they have walked here, why and the dates e.g. "I walked my dogs here from 1980 to 1996" or "during August 2016 I used the path along Reynolds Wharf to ...." . If you can help them with your memories please contact Julie via email srbrookes@btinternet.com or Councillor Nicola Lowery nicola.lowery@telford.gov.uk or Telford & East Shropshire Ramblers Footpaths Officer pauladoherty@tiscali.co.uk Any information would be greatly appreciated and please spread the message and share this post.
