Outrank the big guys on Google

How to outrank the big guys on Google

One of my mottoes here at TUZONGO is now being clearly expressed by the search engine giant, Google.  ‘On the internet, size doesn’t matter!

It may seem surprising to many people that the size of a company and the shear number of pages on its website DOES NOT necessarily mean it will automatically gain more internet traffic.

Responsiveness is key

Remember, we are talking about the internet.   An environment in which nothing stays still for long.  Where rarely a month goes by without another development taking place that impacts on previous marketing strategies and presenting new opportunities for businesses to get ahead.  Here, speed is of the essence.  When city streets are chocked full of traffic, a  small business is like the nippy motor cycle against a lumbering juggernaut.  Able to quickly take advantage of situations as they arise and responsive enough to follow a completely different route if necessary.

So while it may seem a daunting task to take on bigger competitors it is quite achievable by maintaining a focus on quality, using diligence and creativity.  Google ranks web pages not websites, so when it is serving up search results, your page stands an equal chance of satisfying a user’s search query.

Keep it fresh

Smaller sites might actually have more opportunities and capabilities due to their size, such as producing fresh content more quickly.  Help visitors to engage and adopt your site by responding promptly to comments and questions.

Focus on a niche

By focusing your efforts on a particular niche, your site can easily experience long-term benefits.  The quality of the site and what’s on the web pages will make a difference in search rankings.  Even if you are working on your own, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  You will be able to concentrate on your topic and slowly become known as a specialist in your chosen area, even an expert!

Give the people what they want

You can end up becoming a larger site if you work harder and produce superior content.  Being mindful of the user and their experience visiting your site is a successful approach.  Look to provide good value and make it worth their while after they clicked a  link and landed on your page.  You will reap benefits in the long run for expressing fresh new ideas and interesting insights. Its not about trying to be the font of all knowledge.  Its about ensuring the little you do say is of high quality and relevance in your specialist area.  Over time you can expect your reputation to grow along with authority.  Better search rankings follow and subsequently opportunities to expand into other related areas.
